A carpet retailer based in John Lewis stores has filed for bankruptcy, leaving customers across the UK unable to receive their deliveries.
The Floor Room said it had no choice but to appoint liquidators after sister company Carpetright went bust last month.
The company, which has 34 concessions in John Lewis stores as well as its own store in central London, said it had relied on Carpetright’s services for support.
Although Carpetright was later rescued by the founding family through rival company Tapi, the deal only affected a small number of its stores, logistics centers and intellectual property.
Open orders for carpets and floor coverings at The Floor Room will not be fulfilled, insolvency administrator PwC said. Customers are asked to contact their credit card provider regarding a possible refund.
Adam Seres, co-administrator at PwC UK, said: “After [Carpetright’s] Insolvency, management worked to find an alternative solution to maintain Floor Room’s business as a going concern.
“However, due to the financial situation, the company was not able to continue its business activities.”
Almost all of The Floor Room’s 201 employees were immediately laid off, but a few were retained to wind down operations. The concessions and store in London were closed.
