Regal Princess: Cruise ship with 5,600 seats docks in Belfast

The cruise ship Regal Princess arrived in the city at 7am on Sunday morning and left port at 8pm.

The 5,600-capacity ship is scheduled to arrive in Clydeport, Scotland on Monday morning before continuing on to France and returning to England.

Passengers were given a day to explore Belfast with a series of cruise buses taking passengers from the port to the city center.

The ship will be one of Belfast’s most frequent visitors in the 2024 season, calling eight times.

Cruise ship Princess Regal

Princess Regal rose to prominence in 2022 as the setting for the American and Australian versions of The Real Love Boat, a reality show that aired on CBS and Network 10.

The ship has 1,780 passenger cabins and 751 crew cabins.

Operated by Princess Cruises, it is the second ship to sail for the cruise line under the name Regal Princess. Her sister ship Royal Princess debuted in 2014 and has been cruising the world for the past 10 years.

Both ships feature a “SeaWalk,” a cantilevered glass walkway that protrudes from the Lido Deck, giving passengers an unobstructed view of the sea below.

In addition to the Seawalk, the ship’s notable features include a multi-story atrium, a theater, various dining rooms and restaurants, and pools.

The ship has a gross tonnage of 142,714, a length of 330 meters, a draft of 8.5 meters and a beam of 38.4 meters.

When the ship premiered in 2014, chief architect Giacomo Mortola drew inspiration from numerous different sources.

“It’s mainly a combination of warm, elegant tones that convey a feeling of comfort and sophistication,” he said at the time.

“For example, one of my favorite architects, Frank Lloyd Wright, used wood, bronze, and leather-clad walls, and I used those materials to convey the look and feel of the back dining room.

“These materials were also used in the entertainment areas such as the Princess Theater, Vista Lounge and TV Studio and contributed to the acoustic quality in these areas.”
