Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has signed a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.
The new contract, which includes the option for a further year, represents a huge support for coach Erik ten Hag on the eve of the new season.
At the end of last season there were uncertainties about the long-term future of Fernandes, who has won three Player of the Year awards since joining United in January 2020, but those doubts have now been dispelled.
“Everyone knows my passion for Manchester United,” said Fernandes.
“I understand the responsibility and importance that comes with wearing this shirt and the level of dedication and passion required to represent this incredible club.”

“I have had so many special moments here: hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team on European nights at Old Trafford and lifting trophies at Wembley.
“But I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe my best moments in a United shirt were still ahead of me.”
Fernandes made it clear at the end of last season that while he wanted to stay, United needed to prove how much they wanted him and it was now up to the newly assembled management team to convey their vision to the captain.
“It is clear from my discussions with the football leadership and the manager how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the coming years,” he added.
“I see how positive the future will be and it gives me joy to continue leading this team.”
Flanked by Ten Hag, managing director Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth, this is seen internally at United as a crucial line of business this summer.
In his four and a half years at Old Trafford, he played more than 220 games, scored 73 goals and provided 65 assists.
“Bruno has played at such a high level with remarkable consistency since arriving at Manchester United,” said Ashworth.

“He is a brilliant leader who sets new standards every day and inspires the players and staff to perform at their best every day.”
“Bruno’s dedication to the club epitomises what makes a United player. He remains central to everything we want to achieve here and we look forward to working together to achieve the success this club demands.”
