The yet-to-be-announced PC version of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption was strangely detailed on the game’s PlayStation Store page.
As shown in the screenshots and video below, captured by Eurogamer this morning, the description, released just after 8am UK time today, said that players could now play Red Dead Redemption on PC for the very first time.
In addition, some PC-specific features were detailed. “Red Dead Redemption offers the complete single-player experience of both games, including bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition, all upgrades from the 2023 console version, and PC-specific enhancements including support for higher resolutions and frame rates, multiple displays and other accessories, and spatial surround sound,” the sales page states.
Since I first checked this morning, this store page for Red Dead Redemption has changed twice. As of this writing, the store page still mentioned these PC-specific improvements, but the opening line promising the ability to play on PC “now” has been removed.
Just now when I clicked refresh on the page again, these improvements were also removed from the PlayStation Store page.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a PC port of Red Dead Redemption. Back in May, hints of a PC release surfaced through a datamine that showed Rockstar had updated its PC launcher site file with a bunch of new “marketing strings.” Social media pointed out that Rockstar is using the same method to promote another of its flagship games, the evergreen GTA 5.
As Matt reported at the time, the biggest revelation regarding this elusive PC version was a line of text in the files that read: “Travel across the vast American West and Mexico in Red Dead Redemption and its zombie horror counterpart Undead Nightmare – now playable on PC.”
It seems only a matter of time before Rockstar finally releases one of its best games ever for PC. Eurogamer has reached out to Rockstar for further comment. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
