Popular British car brand Jaguar announced that there will be no new cars in the UK for a year as the manufacturer continues to push ahead with its plan to switch entirely to electric cars.

Jaguar is reportedly aiming to have an all-electric fleet by next year despite a stagnant market and falling consumer demand.

Last year, the automaker announced that it would produce its last gasoline sports car, the F-TYPE model, this year and that it would be fully electric by 2025.

As the brand now wants to prioritize its ambitious strategy, it was announced that no more cars will be produced this year.

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director at Jaguar, said last year: “Jaguar begins the boldest transformation in its history Story; With this unique success, Jaguar is celebrating its tradition as a sports car with a combustion engine in a modern luxury brand with a purely electric drive from 2025.

“The F-TYPE has fascinated sports car drivers for more than a decade, just as the E-TYPE has fascinated sports car drivers for five decades before it.”

According to Autocar, the model will cost around £100,000 and will have an astonishing range of 435 miles and a dual engine producing more than 575 horsepower.

Glover told Autocar that today’s electric cars “all look pretty similar because they’ve spent too long in the wind tunnel for range reasons.”

He explained: “If we look at it, it is a fairly homogenous sector and I suspect that could be part of the Reason why the BEV sector has stalled somewhat.

“You actually want to build a car that actually challenges some of these conventions.

“In the naming strategy, you will see acknowledgements and nods to our past, but also aspects that are much more future-oriented,” he explained.

The race to electric mobility comes as the UK seeks to postpone the 2035 deadline banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans.

However, this could still change as the Labour Party seeks to bring stability to the market by reinstating the original 2030 deadline. A government spokesman told GB News that an announcement to this effect would be made “in due course”.

Glover explained that when the car is launched, it will initially be aimed at the US market, as it is of great importance to the brand.

He added: “It’s a really important part of the brand, but we’re also a global brand. And look at the size and scale of the US market – for us it’s really important.”

The new electric GT is expected to hit UK stores in 2026, after about a year of no new cars being launched.

“Retailers will increase their focus on used cars and after-sales service, but yes, there will come a time when you can’t buy a Jaguar,” Glover warned.
